Radial Bar Chart

Radial Bar Chart displays category values as bars curving around a circle, turning a plain bar chart into a compact, eye-catching visual. It is a great fit for rankings, KPI summaries, and dashboard tiles where you want to compare a handful of categories while saving space and adding visual impact.

Key features

Drag a dimension to Category and a measure to Value, and each category becomes a bar arcing around the center.

• Two layout shapes: fit to screen or perfect circle, with clockwise or counter-clockwise sweep and configurable start position.
• Full control over the bars: width, gap, corner radius, inner radius, opacity, and sorting with the largest bar at the start or the end.
• Optional center metric showing the total, average, max, or a custom value with its own label.
• 40+ color palettes, including Tableau classics and colorblind-safe options, plus custom colors per category.
• Radial grid with configurable ticks, labels, and colors.
• Rich bar labels: show all values or only min and max, position them inside, outside, or along the bar, and build a custom template with category, value, and percentage placeholders.
• Flexible legend: position, custom template, decimals, and colors matching each category.

Getting started

1. Open a worksheet in Tableau 2024.2 or later, and add Radial Bar Chart from the Marks card (Viz Extensions).
2. Drag a dimension to Category and a measure to Value.
3. On Tableau Desktop, no account is needed: Radial Bar Chart is free and works right away.
4. To use it on Tableau Server or on your company's Tableau Cloud site, create a free Dataskera account at https://dataskera.com/subscribe and keep using Radial Bar Chart at no cost.
5. Open the configuration dialog to adjust shape, colors, labels, legend, and tooltips.
